LINDAT/CLARIN

Centre for Language Research Infrastructure in the Czech Republic

LINDAT/CLARIN, http://lindat.cz, is designed as the Czech "node" of CLARIN ERIC (Common Language Resources and Technology Infrastructure, http://clarin.eu), an ESFRI network for open sharing of Language Resources and techmologies in research in humanitites and social sciences. LINDAT/CLARIN is also compatible with the technology network META-NET (http://www.meta-net.eu), dedicated to language technologies and applications, effectively linking both of these areas. It is supported by the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth of the Czech Republic in the programme of Large Research Infrastructures.

LINDAT/CLARIN (LM 2015071, 2016 - 2019) is a continuation of the completed LINDAT/CLARIN project (2010 - 2015, https://ufal.mff.cuni.cz/grants/lindatclarin).  Both project are formally hosted at the Institute of  Formal and Applied Linguistics at the School of Computer Science (Faculty of Mathematics and Physics) at the Charles University in Prague. Three other partner research institutions have been contributing to both project rounds:

Institute of the Czech Language of the Academy of Sciences (Martin Prošek)

Masaryk University, Brno (Karel Pala)

University of West Bohemia in Pilsen (Josef Psutka)

The LINDAT/CLARIN Centre collects, processes, annotates (manually or automatically) and preserves Language Resources in the Czech language environment. The technology (and its scalability and quality) is directly applicable both in humanities (linguistic and interdisciplinary language-related research, such as computational and formal linguistics, translation, lexicography, sociolinguistics, psychology, sociology, neurolinguistics, cognitive science, AI, machine learning) and in research and development in language technologies using modern statistical methods (natural language processing, speech recognition and synthesis, multimedia analysis).

LINDAT/CLARIN is operational since 2014 and it has been certified as a CLARIN Type B Center, the highest CLARIN certification so far. While maintenance of the repository is essential for its continued operation and certification, the center capacities are increasingly focussing on web services and applications based on research community user needs.
