Fully funded two-year postdoctoral position in Computational Linguistics
A fully funded two-year postdoctoral position is available at the Institute of Formal and Applied Linguistics, Faculty of Mathematics and Physics, Charles University (Prague, Czech Republic), starting in September 2026 or as soon as possible.
The position is part of a research project focusing on the internal structure of words across typologically diverse languages. The project combines insights from linguistics and natural language processing to develop principled methods for morphological analysis and to support large-scale cross-linguistic research. The work addresses both theoretical questions of linguistic representation and the development of computational tools and multilingual datasets.
We welcome applications from candidates holding (or expecting to obtain within the next few months) a PhD in computational linguistics, language technology, natural language processing, or another relevant area of linguistics. A background or strong interest in morphology and cross-linguistic research is welcome. Experience with computational methods for linguistic data analysis is expected. The project may be of particular interest to candidates working on large language models, multilingual language models, or computational typology.
The postdoctoral researcher will work on developing principles for cross-linguistic morphological analysis, creating and analysing multilingual data or designing computational tools for large-scale morphological research. The goal of this work is to enable systematic comparison of word-internal structure across typologically diverse languages (including low-resource ones), an area where current approaches remain largely fragmented. The researcher will be part of an international team, with opportunities to present the project's findings at leading international conferences, publish in academic journals, and co-organize scientific events. The position offers considerable freedom to shape the research direction according to the candidate’s expertise and interests.
The successful candidate will join an internationally recognized research environment at the Institute of Formal and Applied Linguistics, Charles University, located in the heart of Prague.
