The summer school in a nutshell

  • selected topics from Digital Linguistics
  • 5 days with up to 5 lectures a day, plus one evaluation half-day
  • 8 courses offered in total, completion of 4 courses needed for a successful pass
  • making use of on-line e-learning materials developed within the DigiLing project
  • courses taught by 12 experts from 6 DigiLing partner institutions from 5 EU countries
  • capacity 30 students
  • located in the historical center of Prague
  • certificates issued upon successful completion
  • participation free of charge, but registration and notification of acceptance needed
  • funding for accommodation and travel expenses available for 16 students from non-Prague DigiLing partner universities, i.e. from Johannes Gutenberg Universität Mainz, Sveučilište u Zagrebu, University of Leeds, and Univerza v Ljubljani. These will be selected by the respective institutions following country-specific agreed procedures.

The training school will be hosted by the Institute of Formal and Applied Linguistics of the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics, Charles University. It offers courses covering some of the key areas in Digital Linguistics.

It is part of  DigiLing - an Erasmus+ Strategic Partnership project (2016-2019) with the goal of meeting the increasing European job market demands for digitally skilled linguists. The project’s main output is the DigiLing e-learning hub containing online core modules covering the essential skills and competencies in Digital Linguistics.

In this training school, you can choose courses from technological, lexicological/lexicographical, multilingual/translation tracks. The minimum requirement for the certificate of attendance is to successfully pass any four courses from the offer.

The training school is free, but you have to apply for registration by March 1, 2019, the sooner the better. The total capacity of the summer school is 30 students.

You will receive a notification about the result of your your registration application, and possibly a confirmation of funding for your travel and accommodation expenses (applicable only to non-Prague applicants), by March 15, 2019.
