Reflexive verbs in Serbian language

Sonja Markovič

Appearance of the morpheme se is considered an unambivalent sign of verb reflexivity in the traditional terminology, regardless of the multitude of syntactic conditions they may appear in. However, several authors consider se to be a lexical marker only, and not an accusative clitic reflexive pronoun, also claiming that se never takes the role of object. These proposed characteristics of the morpheme se are used as proof that the verb it combines with must be intransitive. The talk will attempt to present the basic ideas of these approaches.
