TLT 2006 Prague, Czech Republic

Travel Info

How to get to Prague:

If you have any questions please contact: info@tlt2006.org

The public transport recommended to you on this page has the following prices:
- one-way with the possibility to change tram/bus/underground: CZK 20,-
- 3-day ticket: CZK 220,-
- 7-day ticket: CZK 280,-
- 10-day ticket: CZK 320,-

You can buy tickets in most cigar-shops (tobacconist's), slot machines in the underground stations, specialized public transport shops, at the airport or at railway stations, some supermarkets etc.

By air:

There is only one international airport in Prague, the Ruzyně airport (code: PRG). It is located on the west side of the city (see map).
Czech Airlines fly to Prague from all over the world, including overseas destinations (JFK/EWR, Montreal, Toronto), most of the major European cities (London, Paris, Milan, etc.) and even Seoul, Dubai, Cairo and Tel Aviv. Czech Airlines is a member of the Skyteam alliance. To see all the possible destinations, go to http://www.csa.cz/en/czechia/cz_destinace/destinace.htm.
The airport is divided into two terminals, North-1 ("Sever 1" in Czech) and North-2 ("Sever 2") (there is another old terminal, South ("Jih"), but it is not serving the general commercial flights anymore). Flights from the Schengen countries arrive at North-2, others on North-1. There is no monorail or other "local" transport, even though the walk between the terminals is quite long.

The way from the airport to the venue and the discounted hotels except hotel Krystal:

  - either take a taxi (it should cost about CZK 600,-).

  - or use the CEDAZ airport shuttle, which you will find in front of the North-1 arrival hall, to get to any hotel around the centre of Prague. It should cost about CZK 480,-.

  - or rent a car. The usual car rental companies (Avis, Hertz, Budget, Europcar, Sixt) and many other national ones are in the ground floor of the North-1 terminal building, and also in the Parking garage "C" (again, closer to North-1).

  - Or take the 119 bus to the Dejvická station. Be careful about the direction, yours is Dejvická. Otherwise you might end up in the middle of nowhere. Then

     - either take the underground line A (green), 2 stops to "Malostranská" and then any of the tram lines 22, 23, 20, 12 to "Malostranské náměstí" (1 stop),

     - or take the tram line 20 and go directly to "Malostranské Náměstí" (5 stops).

To hotel Krystal:

  - either take a taxi (call 14014 for the AAA taxi, or get it in front of both North-1 and North-2 terminals - it should be the cheapest as the airport Limousine service has a fixed rate CZK 600,- to Prague, which is normal for the centre, but Krystal is much closer).
  - or use bus no. 119 or 179 to station "Divoká Šárka" and then take the tram no. 20 or 26 to station "Nad Džbánem". Get off and walk the little street on your right (if facing the direction of the tram). After about 50m turn left and walk along the street "José Martího". After about 300m the hotel should be in front of you.
  - or use the CEDAZ airport shuttle, which you will find in front of the North-1 arrival hall. It should cost about CZK 480,-.

From hotel Krystal to the venue:
Go back to the main road (with the tram). Get on line no. 20 and go all the way to "Malostranské náměstí" (14 stops, direction "Sídliště Barrandov").

By car

Note: There aren't almost any parking lots near the Music Academy and the discounted hotels in the neighborhood of the venue. In fact, there is only one within walking distance from the hotels, and it is very limited (50 places). The price is CZK 40,-/hour (EUR 1,- = cca. CZK 28,-) Only hotel Krystal, which is quite far from the venue, has a parking lot. However, some of the hotels might have cheaper parking service (but only vallet, no self-parking there for sure). Please contact the hotels directly and ask.

From the west: (e. g. Germany, France, Switzerland,...)
Take the E50 westward (no. 6 highway from Nürnberg) and cross the border at the Rozvadov - Waidhaus border crossing. Then follow the D5 highway via Pilsen all the way to Prague. (see map)

To the venue and all the discounted hotels except hotel Krystal:
Follow the D5 all the way to the end, crossing the beltway. It will get you to a four-lane connection road northwards (direction Motol, Veleslavín, Střešovice, Hradčany). Cross the next intersection (on an overpass) and on the next one (large intersection with traffic lights) take a right turn (direction Centre, Veleslavín, Střešovice, Hradčany, Holešovice - about 4000m from the end of D5). The street is called "Bělohorská" (Rt. no.6). On the next large crossing the tram will cross your way to the right, but keep going straight ("Patočkova", still Rt. no.6). Soon, it will become "Milady Horákové" but the route's number (6) will stay. Then, after going through many red lights, just before entering a wide open space with two stadiums (if you are already there, it is too far) and just before the Israeli embassy turn right to "Badeniho" (about 5000m from joining Rt. no.6 - "Bělohorská"), which will soon change to "Chotkova" and make a double bend. Enjoy the view of Prague on the left. After the double bend take the first (small) street to the right (1100m from the last crossing). It will bring you to Malostranské náměstí (300 m). Then, according to the map on the accomodation page, find your hotel.

To hotel Krystal:
When the D5 comes to the beltway, exit it northward (direction Airport, Hostivice, Slaný). On the second exit (1800m), go towards Vokovice and Dejvice (left at the traffic lights at the end of the ramp). You are now on the "Evropská" street. Pass an Esso gas station on the right, beware of a 50 km/h fixed radar and a 300m radar-measured average-speed stretch(!) after it, a tram turning point (tram line end station) on the left and another gas station (Shell, on the left, about 3000m from the beltway). Then take the next possible right turn (at red lights), continue for about 50m and turn left towards hotel Krystal (about 300m on Jose Martiho street).
From hotel Krystal to the venue:
Go back to the main road (with the tram). Get on line no. 20 and go all the way to "Malostranské náměstí" (14 stops, direction "Sídliště Barrandov").

Once in Dresden, take the E55 southward, passing the Czech border at the Zinnwald - Cínovec border crossing. Then continue along the E55 via Teplice and join the D8 highway near Lovosice. It will take you all the way to Prague. (see map).

To the venue and all the discounted hotels except hotel Krystal:
Follow the D8 all the way to the end, when it becomes "V Holešovičkách" (after crossing a highway-like intersection). Then continue on "V Holešovičkách", later crossing the river. Then, when you come to the river once more (3500m from the end of D8), take a right turn and follow the tram ("nábřeží Edvarda Beneše") along the river. Then, when you come to a tram station (2500m from the right turn to the river), turn right and almost immediately left again, to avoid going on the double bend the road makes. Then follow this one-way road to "Malostranské náměstí" (300 m). Then, according to the map on the accomodation page, find your hotel.

To hotel Krystal:
Follow the D8 all the way to the end, when it becomes "V Holešovičkách" (after crossing a highway-like intersection straight). Then continue on "V Holešovičkách", later crossing the river, then turn right as soon as possible (2500m from the end of D8). Then keep going around an exhibition ground, crossing the railway twice. Then, when you come to a T-like crossing, turn right (cca. 1500m). Pass a giant stadium on your right (after another 1500m) and a tram station. Turn right on the next crossing. This will take you to a big roundabout. Use the third big road to get off (direction Airport, "Evropská" street). Follow it until you pass two gas stations (about 4000m from the roundabout) in quick succession - an Esso on the right and an OMV on the left (there shouldn't be any other on the way from the roundabout). Then take the next possible left turn (at traffic lights), continue for about 50m and turn left towards hotel Krystal (about 300m).

Note: An electronic toll collection system is being built on the highways right now. We do not know if it will be finished by December. It only limits traffic to 80 km/h at certain places, but it can get annoying. It will be used for heavy trucks only; therefore, you will still have to buy a "vignette" for using the highways. They are sold at all border crossings and some gas stations. The one with the shortest duration costs CZK 200,- and lasts for 15 days. Furthermore, the D1 is well known for frequent traffic jams, as is the Prague beltway. It is especially bad on Friday/Sunday afternoons. Drive safely!

http://www.idos.cz is a very useful link to find your train, bus and public transport connection. Although it is Czech, it can find most of European railway stations and bus terminals.
Note: click the little English/German flag in the lower right corner to use the English/German version

http://www.mapy.cz is a link to an electronic map of the Czech Republic with a very good search system. Just type the name or address of your hotel and it should find it.

GPS coordinates of the venue: N 50°05'17.42", E 14°24'13.28"

The public transport is being recommended to you on this page. It is quite reliable and safe – safe to the extent as any Capital City may be, but certainly not safer. Beware of pickpockets! They are in action in the most frequented places as the Wenceslas Square (Václavské náměstí), the Main Railway Station (Hlavní nádraží) and on metro stations and metro trains in the city centre. Also, some tram lines have a bad reputation – No. 22 and 23 going through the centre. Always try not to be alone when using trams at night.
