Colloquium: Society, Literature, AI (SoLitAI)

A colloquium at the intersection of literary theory and emerging technologies.

As part of the AIAI research project (Authorship and Interpretation of works created with AI), the Institute of Formal and Applied Linguistics MFF UK (ÚFAL), together with the Institute of Czech Literature of the CAS (ÚČL), invite participants to join our second collaborative discussion on how authorship and interpretation are being reshaped in the age of generative artificial intelligence.

Programme

Optional visit of GENGEN exhibition

Before the event, there is an optional visit of the GENGEN exhibition in the Didaktikon centre, which is nearby.

The exhibition features three interactive works of digital art students of VŠVU, built upon automated AI generators and analyzers of Czech poetry.

If you want to join the visit, please join us at 11:00 at the reception of Kampus Hybernská (in the gateway entrance from Hybernská street).

Main Programme

The main programme is composed of shorter "lightning talks" (2-7 mins) and longer "deeper talks" (20-30 mins). Each talk will be followed by a discussion. The programme will gradually go from more practical topics to more theoretical topics.

  1. 13:00 Opening
  2. Rudolf Rosa: AI literary competition [lightning] (slides)
  3. Michaela Liegertová: Exploring literary creation through multi-LLM simulations - Insights from a non-expert's perspective [deeper] (SIMPLEX eval)
  4. Monika Stobiecka: Early summary of the most important topics concerning authorship raised in expert interviews by artists who use generative AI in their work [lightning]
  5. Przemysław Kordos: Slop Story [deeper]
  6. Dita Malečková: Digital Daimons: How AI Mediates Between Worlds [lightning]
  7. Rudolf Rosa and Tomáš Musil: Authorship in the AI era: Proposing a publisher-centered authorship conceptualization [deeper] (slides)
  8. Krzysztof Skonieczny: Should Social Critique be Automated? [deeper]
  9. Tomáš Musil: Rethinking Understanding: From Logocentrism to the Author-Function in the Age of LLMs [deeper] (slides)
  10. Rudolf Rosa: Conceptualizing Writing as Reading [lightning] (slides)
  11. optionally: open discussion (if there is time)
  12. approx. 18:00 Closing

See the abstracts of the deeper talks.

Detailed times are not provided, the talks will simply follow one after each other in the listed order (however, we expect approximately 15min for each lightning talk and 30min for each deeper talk, including discussion). Presenters may (but do not need to) use slides, there is a beamer available at the venue. A presentation notebook can also be provided.

Water and coffee will be available, and we plan to make one coffee break in the middle of the programme (probably after Digital Daimons).

Optional informal gathering in a pub

If you are interested, you can join us after the event to continue our discussions more informally in a nearby pub. We will gather in front of the building after the event and slowly walk to a pub. You can also join us later directly in the pub.

We have a reservation for our group from 18:30 in the literary restaurant Božská Lahvice near the tram stop Právnická fakulta. It is approximately a 20 minute walk from the venue, or a few minutes on the 207 bus from Bílá Labuť. Go with us directly or join us later.

More info about the event

This event is intended primarily for scholars and students in the fields of linguisticsphilosophyliterary studies, and other researchers interested in AI, authorship, and text. The event is also intended for members of the broader public with interest in the topic.

The event will be held in English language.

We intend to publish a book of abstracts of the talks.

The event is organized by the AIAI project, with the financial support of the Czech Science Foundation (grant number 25-14501L). The event will include a presentation of the preliminary findings of the project. This is a short-term event producing a scholarly output.
