Curriculum Vitae

Jarmila Panevová, born on April 8th, 1938, in Prague is a professor of linguistics and a vice-director of the Institute of Formal and Applied Linguistics, Facultz of Mathematics and Physics, Charles university Prague. She graduated in Czech and Russian at the Faculty of Philosophy, Charles University Pragze in 1961. There she got her other academic degrees (PhDr. in 1967, CSc. in 1969, DrSc. in 1989, docent (associated professor) in 1992, professor in 1995).

The contemporary Czech grammar, esp. syntax and its realtion to the semantic structure of the sentence belong to her main topics. She participated in the building of the annotated treebank of Czech (Prague Dependency Treebank).

Her teaching activities cover the courses on the general linguistics, syntax of the contemporary Czech and courses on the Academic Writting.

She is a supervisor of several postgraduate students on the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics, as well as on the Faculty of Philosophy at Charles University. She is a chair of the Commitee for postgraduate studies of mathematical linguistics at the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics and a member of several committees for postgraduate studies on the Faculty of Philosophy (for General Linguistics, for Mathematical and Corpus Linguistics and for Czech Language).

She was a chairperson of the Linguistic Society of the Czech Republic (1990 - 1999). She is a chair of the International Committee for the Grammatical Structure of Slavonic Languages of the International Committee of Slavists (since 2003).
