Vacant position for PhD candidates in Computational Linguistics
The Charles University in Prague (CUNI) invites applications for a position as research scholar (PhD) in computational linguistics at the Institute of Formal and Applied Linguistics.
Description of the position
The 3-year position (starting September, 2010) involves participation as an Early Stage Researcher (for criteria, see fp7-mga-annex3intramulti_en.pdf) in the EU project CLARA - Common Language Resources and their Applications, which is a Marie Curie Initial Training Network receiving funding from the European Commission's 7th Framework Programme (see CLARA http://clara.uib.no/; and Marie Curie Actions http://ec.europa.eu/research/mariecurieactions/).
The specific position involves participation in the CLARA subproject Linguistic Analysis for Treebank Annotation, which is a cooperation between CUNI and University of Tűbingen. The overall aim of the subproject is to specify a common core of syntactic and semantic features for a range of languages (Czech, English, German, Slovak, and others). Different annotation schemes will be tested and validated by performing annotation of texts for these languages, providing as the final product annotated corpora (treebanks) for both linguistic research and statistical language learning, as well as creating NLP tools (i.e., tools for automatic syntactic and semantic analysis).
